My wife, Jo-Anne Sinclair, and I moved to Monte Sereno in 1997 after emigrating from Canada two years earlier.
We were lured by Silicon Valley’s abundant job opportunities and the outdoor lifestyle that we continue to enjoy today.
The California lifestyle is one reason why, when I was offered a transfer from Ernst & Young's Toronto office to the San Jose office we jumped at the chance.
We haven’t looked back since.
While our life here has been blessed by many things, the birth of our children, Nik and Kate, is the most momentous. Nik served on the Monte Sereno Youth Commission during high school and graduated from Bellarmine College Prep in 2017. He’s now a senior at Santa Clara University and will be joining PricewaterhouseCoopers after he graduates in 2021.
Kate followed in her brother’s footsteps and joined the Monte Sereno Youth Commission in 2017. She is a senior at Presentation High School.
Jo-Anne is the Chief Legal Officer for ASAPP, a customer service artificial intelligence start-up. The company’s software trains customer service reps to be better humans.
I retired from my career as an international management consultant in 2010 and began a major home remodeling project.
It’s a dream home that was designed to meet “LEED Platinum” certification. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The house is all-electric. We applied for, and won, an award for our all-electric home in 2019.
With two children who are U.S. citizens and a beautiful “new” home, Jo-Anne and I quickly realized we would never leave Monte Sereno, so we became U.S. citizens on Oct. 22, 2019. 
Within two weeks, I was appointed to Monte Sereno’s Site & Architectural Commission.
Being a U.S. citizen allows me to fully participate in the American experience, while at the same time giving back to the community I love so much.
